In the August Issue of Field & Stream magazine there is an intersting article on Scent-Lok titled "Something Stinks at Scent-Lok". Apparently Scent-Lok covers up roughly 20% of human odor after being tested by scientist. Their marketing guy has made a huge costly mistake in saying it covers from 95-99 percent and they are looking at hefty law suits.
I used to wear Scent-Lok and have harvested deer that were down wind and have also been busted by deer that were down wind. I am sure the majority of the people reading this post have also had the same thing happen to them. I have since switched to Under Armour Capture with Scent Technology and I am very appreciative of giving the opportunity to wear it. They are a great sponsor! But I will still practice the same woodsmanship no matter what I am wearing. Shower before heading to the woods using Dead Down wind body wash and shampoo, get dressed after your ride to your hunting spot, spray your outter layers with a scent masking spray and walk slowly to your stand to prevent perspiration. At the end of the day if scent prevention clothing covers just 5% of human scent, well we are all 5% closer to harvesting that buck of a lifetime! I would be interested in hearing anyones thoughts and rituals you go thru before heading to the timber. Hunt safe and Good Luck to everyone this fall!

I too have used the Scent-Lok suits.  And as Ted stated, I have had deer down wind of me lots of times that never smelled me, but have also gotten the worst sound to a hunter of the snorting deer down wind and out of sight still.  I read an interesting article a year or so ago about scent lok and all charcoal liners.  Article stated that pretty much any charcoal liner to reactivate and release scent molecules has to be heated about 10x hotter than any heat a dryer can produce.  So in short the article was saying that after one use that the charcoal liner was pretty much worthless anyways as it could no longer stop and hold any more scent molecules.  With all that being said I too took all the precautions Ted does.  Shower with scent free, and scent eliminating shower gel/shampoo, dress after exiting vehicle, and spray down with a scent eliminating spray when dressed.  Have known some friends to put their clothes in a container with walnuts, apples, acorns, or even just leaves and dirt to make all clothes smell of a natural scent to deer.  Even knew of one person who would find deer crap on the way to their stand and rub it all over themselves.  Could never get myself to try that one..lol

The "Forget the Wind and Hunt" or "Hunt 360" were very bold statements that made most experienced hunters just raise their eyebrows. However, if they retain any human odors it is still better than not having it. I always viewed it as if it can save me on swirling conditons, I need it, especially in the early season.  I maintain a serious scent free regiment, spray down, play the wind and wear as many layers of some sort of scent eliminating clothing. In a late season hunt, I may wear as many a four layers, they do perform at some level but I personally don't believe it is any where near their claim. I much rather wear scent eliminating clothing of some kind rather than my favorite college football team cotton sweatshirt. Cotton?Huh You couldn't pay me to wear it.

Anyone seen the Scentblocker commercial with T-bone and Nick, where Nick is down and T-bone farts. i dare any of our pro staff brothers to try that after Sam has had his chili.....  Grin Ain't no Scent blocking apparel in the world going to stop that........  Grin

On a serious note, if you wash your hunting clothes in the Dead Down Wind detergent and keep them stored in a plastic lockable container and and shower with the Dead Down Wind body soap and use the scent-free deodorant and change in the field and spray down with Evolve 3. That is about as good as you can get entering the woods. Just be sure to take your spray with you and spray down when you get in the tree or blind to hide any scent from sweat or anything you may have picked up on your way in.
