Made it out to the mighty Maumee River last friday with the Mathews in hand and the AMS kit strapped to it. Not ideal bowfishing conditions, because the river resembled something like the Willy Wonka Chocolate River, but thought I would give it a try. Not much happening in the a.m., so I flipped a texas rig for awhile and caught a hand full of bass. Mid morning, the carp were staging and it was game on. Since the water was still extremely murky, the most you could see were shawdows moving slowly on the surface, but defined enough to fling some arrows. The first two shots equalled two dead carp. The next 10 shots were wiff's, and the final two shots were 2 more dead carp. I suppose 4 for 14 isn't a bad average if I was a DH for the Toledo MudHens, but nothing to right home to mama about in the bowfishing world. Nontheless, nothing beats a day on the water honing the skills for the fall!!

Sounds like a good time.  I am hoping to get out on the water after some fish soon.

A few days ago, I caught a chunky ten-inch crappie in the Mighty Maumee while I was fishing for white bass.  Would I be wasting my time to actually target crappie in the Maumee or do I stand a chance of actually filling a stringer?

Hi, Does anyone know when the run offically started this year? Also, how much long can I expect it to last? I want to get down there this week to try some fishing, but might not get a chance until next week.

Thanks for your help.

The better part of the Maumee River is Frozen at this point, however the spring run for crappies can be absolutely phenominal. Areas of Turkeyfoot creek can be on fire if you catch them right. Good Luck.
